The Oakton Springs Hotel opened in 1873 and became a popular destination for vacationers who flocked to the village of Pewaukee and nearby Pewaukee Lake.

In 1862, the German Reformed Church founded a combined academy and seminary in the Sheboygan area. Though the seminary has now separated, the academy continues to exist as Lakeland College.

The Milwaukee Town Hall was constructed in 1872 and utilized as a meeting place until much of the town was incorporated into Glendale in 1950. The building was restored by the Glendale Women's Club in the 1960s.

In 1984, the City of Milwaukee renamed different sections of 3rd Street as Old World Third Street and Martin Luther King Drive, reversing a simplification of street name rationalization initiated earlier in the 20th century.

The 700 Tap tavern was located on the corner of 7th and Walnut Streets, pictured here in 1961. The building with the "Regal" sign was used as church known by the name the Second House of Prayer.

Local officials have attempted to control prostitution throughout Milwaukee's history. In November 1915, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors passed this resolution to "suppress and restrain disorderly houses, and houses of ill-fame and prostitution."
