Taken in the 1880s, this block of Water Street between Wisconsin and Mason Streets features a wide variety of businesses, including a furniture store, saloon, tailor, printer and bindery, and bookstore.

This 1895 photograph looks down over Pine Lake, the centerpiece of the village of Chenequa, and George Brumder's summer home. Brumder was a German-language book and newspaper publisher from Milwaukee known across the United States.

Though numbers have significantly decreased from their peak in the 19th century, Washington County is still home to several hundred farms like this one.
Washington Heights is home to several upscale and trendy restaurants and coffee shops. Though the building pictured here now houses a pizzeria, the coffee cup is still fixed upon the roof.
Designed by artist Janice Kotowicz, this Washington Park poster is an example of the Milwaukee neighborhoods poster series released by the Milwaukee Department of City Development.
