Pictured here in 1974, the Robert Faries Residence on State Street was built around 1850 for Robert Faries, who is believed to be Wisconsin's first dentist. It has had a series of owners, including Concordia College, and is currently privately owned.

In 1997, artist Robert Wyland donated this mural of whales to Milwaukee County. It was featured on the county courthouse annex until it and the annex were demolished in 2006 as part of the Marquette Interchange reconstruction.

Detritus from Milwaukee's deindustrialization at the Solvay Coke site along inner harbor. Solvay Coke began operation in 1903 and produced coke, a high-carbon fuel similar to coal.
Towards the end of the twentieth century, many Russians settled and established businesses in Shorewood. Russian Food & Gifts, which features traditional Russian groceries and gifts, is located on Oakland Avenue just south of Menlo Boulevard.
